Library Instruction: Sample Guides & Exercises*

Library Instruction: Your course assignment(s)

Library instruction is more effective when students have a need for information. If your students have your assignment prior to coming to the library for instruction, we can develop your instruction session more specifically to your students' information needs.

In preparing for your library session, the instruction librarian may create handouts, guides, or exercises that will help students understand the connections between the assignment and useful library resources and services. Please provide us with the details of the assignment and any resources you would like us to highlight when you submit your Library Instruction Request Form.

Library Instruction: Sample guides and exercises*

All students who take Freshman Composition classes at SUNY New Paltz receive library instruction as part of the information literacy instruction in those courses. Below are illustrative handouts, guides, and exercises for some of those class sessions.

Freshman Composition I
Freshman Composition II

Building from that foundation, we develop library instruction for other courses specific to the discipline and level of the class. Below are illustrative guides and exercises developed for previous intermediate and advanced level classes in various disciplines.
