Electronic Course Reserves

Fall 08/Spring 09

Reserves: electronic reserves are now placed on Blackboard course pages. Students enrolled in your course will be able to directly retrieve reserve items on Blackboard without logging in to a separate system.

The library staff is ready to scan your course reserves and load them onto your Blackboard course page. Please bring your course items to the library Checkout Desk as soon as possible.

Items/articles are to be dropped off at the library by the faculty ONLY. This allows us to verify information with you as needed. As a result, we will be able to deliver reserve service to your students quickly. Articles are scanned and available on Blackboard in the order received. At the beginning of a semester there is a backlog. Please allow at least ONE week for new items/articles to be scanned and to appear on the Blackboard course page.

A separate reserve course card must be filled out for each course. The card includes:

  • Correct course number including session number (example: ART100-01)
  • Department (course related)
  • Course Title
  • Faculty phone number (campus and home)
  • Faculty e-mail address
  • Item/article title written exactly as you want it to appear on Blackboard

In addition a library copyright cover sheet must be filled out for each article or book chapter.

At the end of every semester all articles/items are archived. If you want archived items available to your students for another semester, list the items on a reserves course card. Items will be retrieved and placed on the Blackboard course page.

If the item/article is in electronic form, give us a data CD/DVD or URL, so we can link to the electronic version.

All items/articles will be returned to faculty via the college mail as soon as scanning is completed.

Faculty should instruct their students on accessing electronic reserves on the Blackboard course page:

Log onto Blackboard

  • Click E-Reserve Tab on top

In compliance with the Copyright fair use guidelines, the following materials can be placed on electronic reserves:

  1. One article from a journal per class per semester
  2. Up to 10% or 2 chapters of a book.s contents per class per semester whichever is less.

More information on the copyright policy

To help us process your items quickly, please submit items on 8 « x 11 paper (white or light colored paper) with clear readable text (not highlighted, no pictures), and single sided copies with no staples.
