Traditional Reserves

Library Books, Personal books & Other Materials

Reserves: Library books, personally owned books and other materials such as CDs and DVDs may be placed on reserve by faculty. Reserve items are shelved at the reserve area. Students with current SUNY ID cards checkout items at the Reserve Desk for library use or loan periods specified by the faculty.

Procedures:

  • Faculty bring library books, personal books and other items for reserve to the Checkout Desk staff.
  • For each course, fill out a reserve card which will include:
    • Your Name
    • Department
    • Phone number on and off campus
    • Course Number including section number (example: ART100-01) and title
    • Items listed by title include call number if it is a library book
    • Selected loan period for items list of for each title listed
  • Library staff places books and items on reserve as quickly as possible in the order received at the Checkout Desk. Please allow at least one week at the beginning of a semester.
  • Personally owned items will be marked with labels and tape.
  • If possible, a copy of a personally owned CD or DVD should be used for reserve.
  • Multiple copies of a title are not placed on reserve until usage indicates the need for additional copies, or class size exceeds 50.

Reserve items are removed at the end of the semester. Faculty will be called and/or emailed when items are available for pick up. Personal books and items held at the Checkout Desk should be picked up before the next semester begins. Personal books and items not picked up will be sent to the faculty.s academic department via campus mail. The library is not responsible for items not picked up, lost or damaged in the mail.

If the library does not own a book or item you need for reserve, please fill out an Online Book Request Form with your course number and contact information on the Library web page (http://lib.newpaltz.edu). It may be possible for the library to purchase the book/item in time for your course reserves.
