for Students with Disabilities
Services and Equipment on the Main Floor:
All library services are available to students with disabilities.
To better serve our student population with special needs, the library has outfitted a study room with a fast Windows XP PC with Microsoft Office and a network connection to allow access to the library's new electronic resources. The PC has a variety software and hardware specifically for students with disabilities. To use this facility, you can check out the key at the circulation desk.
In 2007 most all of the software and equipment was updated.
Some of the enhancements include:
- ZoomText Xtra for screen magnification software is helpful for people with low vision.
- JAWS for Windows is a screen reader and PC interface for the blind
- Kurzweil 1000 and Kurzweil 3000 software with a scanner to convert printed documents into readable text on the PC
- Duxbury Braille translator for printing documents in braille
- Juliet Pro60 Braille printer
- Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro speech recognition software
There is also a regular color inkjet printer, as well as a speed controlled tape recorder for recording Kurzweil or other spoken output.

Note: Every public PC in the reference area has Microsoft basic screen magnification software available through a shortcut on the desktop.
Special services and assistance available:
- Students in need of assistance in the library should identify themselves at the Checkout Desk and/or the Information Desk.
- Reference term paper assistance by appointment, phone 3710.
- Elevator located near the Library Concourse entrance for access to the main floor.
- Elevator in the Microform/Media Room for access to the stacks.
- Rest rooms available on all floors, the easiest to use are on the ground level and in the main floor lobby.
- Group study room on the main floor, and Individual Study Rooms on the Concourse and Ground levels.
- Library café and snack area with vending machines.
- Stapler, hole punch, scissors available at Checkout Desk.
IN CASE OF FIRE
Persons with hearing impairments should always let Checkout Desk know that you are in the building.
Fire alarm is audible and visual. Go to nearest exit on same floor.
If you don't hear the alarm, a library fire Marshall will locate you and assist you from the building.
