Wireless in the library
Wireless networking is only available to SUNY New Paltz students, faculty, and staff, it requires your New Paltz Computer User's ID
Areas available
Wireless networking is now available throughout the Library building. You may need to reconnect if you walk with your laptop from one floor to another.
What you need
You will need a laptop with a wireless network card, but no special software is required.
As easy as . . .
If your laptop is properly equipped, it will recognize our wireless network and you will see a message in the lower right of your screen indicating a successful connection. Once you see that message, open a web browser and a login page will display. Enter your NPCUID and you will be able to browse the web.
If You Have Never Connected To the Campus Wireless
If you have never connected to the campus wireless connection you have to open a list of available wireless networks. There are two campus network names to choose from one called "newpaltz" and one Called "SUNY New Paltz". The "SUNY New Paltz" network is the most common and will give you the best chance of staying connected. You may see other networks only select "SUNY New Paltz" or "newpaltz".
NOTE:
Some PCs use a program that came with your wireless connector to manage your wireless connections. If so you will have to refer to its instructions to connect. Most of these programs will have an option in them that says something like "Let Windows manage my wireless connections"; if you select that you will be able to use these instructions.
First Time Connection in Windows XP
To connect in Windows XP click on your wireless connector Icon by the clock. It should look like a tiny monitor with waves on the side and if you are not connected it will have a red X in front.
When you click on your wireless connector icon you should see a list of available networks. Select "newpaltz" and click connect. Then you can open a web browser and login with your NPCUID
